Role Summary/Purpose: The Southern Europe Regional Controller will partner with the Commercial & Operational teams to drive sound financial decision-making for the business. In addition, they will lead a team across multiple countries and ensure timely, accurate Reporting in line with US GAAP and local statutory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities: Team Leadership:

  • Lead and develop a team of ~10 employees, primarily based in Milan and Madrid
  • Develop talent and pipeline and continue to focus on creating a team that is strong on execution and passionate about their roles
  • Build strong relationships with the Commercial & Operational teams across SE and be viewed as the ‘go to’ person for financial decision-making
  • Forge strong relationships with the Budapest Global Operations team and other COEs to ensure timely, accurate Reporting for the areas they own
  • Ensure the Business Finance Managers are connected with changes in the accounting organization and processes and maintain high service levels through liaison with the GE Global Operations team

Rigorous Reporting Environment:

  • Perform financial analysis of balance sheet accounts to ensure compliance, integrity of account balances/financial reporting and effectiveness of business processes
  • Key participant in annual pre-close, quarterly CFO risk reviews and monthly controllership reviews with senior management
  • Monitor and review the financial ledgers of each legal entity to ensure maintenance in compliance with local laws/GAPs, tax codes, government regulations and filing requirements
  • Drive consistent and effective policies and procedures during monthly/quarterly close process including GE Corporate Data Request submissions, representation letters & adjusting entries
  • Ensure timely and defect-free account balance sheet reconciliations. Review high risk/material account reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate and timely statutory & management reporting, by supporting the process and liaising closely with auditors to ensure all deliverables are submitted timely, at a high standard
  • Key contact for KPMG auditor
  • Partner with GE Corporate Audit Staff and Finance Managers for internal GE compliance reviews. Drive closure of open audit issues and proactively work to prevent future issues / manage risk. Lead resulting corrective action process implementation and follow up throughout the organization
  • Monitor and review that appropriate Internal Controls are in place, in line with local statutory laws and GAPs, GE GAP, US GAAP, and critically examine potential issues where financial risks & opportunities may be drawn out
  • Proactively lead adherence to GE GAP compliance policies

Business partnering:

  • Participate in regular finance reviews, providing value added analytics to mitigate financial risk and provide senior management with decision-making information
  • Research and advise on complex technical accounting issues and work closely with financial and operational leadership to pro-actively assess and manage financial risk
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities and communicate effectively by writing reports and technical papers to present a workable solution
  • Build strong links with the Commercial Finance team and liaise closely with the Commercial COE to review commercial deals and manage revenue recognition reporting
  • Manage the fiscal budget for the SE Controllership Region. Monitor actuals and present information to the Europe Controller
  • Partner with numerous business finance functions to align Controllership initiatives and priorities to ensure controllership deadlines are met

Simplification:

  • Help lead simplification initiatives across the One GEHC entities to reduce complexity and enable local teams to focus on value added analytical/strategic tasks
Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA with strong post qualification experience OR Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or other business related field and very strong accounting or finance experience
  • Fluent in English
  • EU Work Permit

Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in U.S. GAAP, local GAAP and authoritative accounting literature (i.e. FASB pronouncements)
  • Leadership experience in a Global business environment and experienced in leading teams
  • Multi-country accounting/controllership experience
  • Capable of forging strong relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex business issues in a clear/concise manner
  • Strong analytical skills: able to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers, generate alternatives and drive positive change
  • Strong systems skills and aptitude
  • Clear thinking/problem solving: successfully led projects/process improvements within operations/finance functions; able to quickly grasp new ideas
  • Adaptable/Flexible: being open to change in response to new information and in different or unexpected circumstances
  • Integrity: accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions and when dealing with others
  • Confidence/Assertiveness: strong influencing skills across business functions
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment
