Role Summary/Purpose: The Wind Universal Fleet Solutions (UFS) Senior Mechanical Services Engineer will lead design(s) in support of new product introduction for global, non-GE wind turbines. This role will include gearbox remanufacturing/repair strategy (reverse engineering) and support for component design, analysis, testing, exchange and 3-D scanning technology (blade scans).
Essential Responsibilities: You will have mechanical systems and components design responsibilities to ensure overall project success. As the Wind UFS Senior Mechanical Services Engineer you will:

  • Work well independently and with little supervision
  • Own technical responsibility for mechanical design of Non-GE wind turbine components and or systems including the creation and ownership of drawings internally and/or with 3rd parties.
  • Execute analytical evaluations as needed
  • Simplify processes in the design development for faster execution
  • Work with internal & external customers to design new services products, determine applicability of existing products and identify technology challenges/risks on non-GE wind turbines
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to effectively manage the mechanical design scope for New Product Introduction (NPI) technical requirements, trade-offs, decisions, deliverables, cost, schedule and other design requirements for execution from conceptual design through validation and field implementation
  • Deliver on-time recommendations and updates to internal management teams, technical resources, and key stakeholders, including formal and informal design reviews
  • Support customer meetings and wind farm visits in support of sales, proposals, requisition, test & learn, and reverse engineering opportunities to solve customer problems, including performance upgrades
  • Provide Cost and schedule estimation for mechanical scope deliverables
Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) from an accredited college or university
  • Strong engineering experience
  • Ability and availability to travel approximately 10%
  • Ability to climb wind turbine towers
  • EU Work Permit

Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.

  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) from an accredited college or university
  • Significant Wind engineering experience
  • Project management skills
  • Skilled in Analytical tools (ANSYS, Unigraphics and others)
  • Experience with gearboxes
  • Experience or desire to define technical requirements for third party engineering company design and / or delivery of product to the field
  • Experience or desire to reverse-engineer non-GE wind turbine designs
  • Strong leadership skills capable of involving and influencing all levels, internally and externally
  • Proven track record of delivering results
  • Proven interpersonal skills in a global team
  • Strong decision making skills and business acumen
  • Awareness of competing technologies & components in the wind market
